The Pizza
What style is it?
Chicago-style deep dish! It took me a long time to find this anywhere in the Charlotte area, but it was totally worth the wait. Hopefully I can help you find it a little faster!
How’s the crust?
The crust has corn flour in it, and I highly approve! It’s a little bit sweet, and it’s a good finishing touch at the end of each slice. Solid enough to keep things in place without getting too hard.
How’s the sauce?
Plenty of sauce to fill things up, and it’s tasty, too.
How’s the cheese?
The cheese feels fresh and light — nothing too heavy or greasy.
How are the toppings ?
The toppings are excellent!
Overall Eating Experience
Quality of Ingredients
The ingredients were enjoyable all around!
Taste
I couldn’t have asked for a better deep dish experience! I have tried some authentic Chicago deep dish, but not the holy grail of Lou Malnati’s or Gino’s.
However, this stuff is good! I don’t feel the need to visit Chicago on a pizza excursion any time soon.
Mouth Feel
10/10 on this one — everything comes together with amazing flavor and texture — possibly the greatest mouth feel score I’ve given!
Post-Meal Regrets — when dinner bites back
The only problems I’ve had came about when I ate wayyy too much because the pizza was so good.
Thoughts from a lactose-intolerant
Worth the risk!

The PIC Verdict:
5 — Will go out of my way to visit again AND encourage others to do so as well
No doubt about this one — will return and I tell just about anybody in the area that they need to stop by this place if they’re anywhere close.
The In-Person Experience — what to expect
First Thought
“Hmm… I wonder if they care more about their hot dogs instead of their pizza.”
Atmosphere
It’s never been crowded when we’ve been there, and there are TV’s if you want to catch some sports.
People + Service
Our experience with the staff has consistently been EXCELLENT! I’m not the most sociable fellow, but usually get to have a good chat with the team member taking our order, and have always felt like they enjoy their work and serving others. It’s always a treat to visit places like that!
Cost
Convenience Factor
The odds of a good convenience factor score are thoroughly stacked against Matt’s Chicago Dog for us. It’s a good 40 minutes away – without traffic, AND there has been some major construction on the highways in that part of town.
We’ve hit some serious slowdowns en route and taken some windy Waze-recommended backroads on our visits, but that hasn’t stopped us yet.
Even after the longest delay, the group consensus was that the lengthy journey was “Worth it.”

Appetizers
Sometimes we’ve gotten garlic knots for free, sometimes not. I think if you call ahead and order to-go, they don’t bring out the garlic knots by default. If you’re dining in, I think you MIGHT get some for free!
